I think the mantra should read something like:

"It's ok to fold in marginal spots"

Obviously it's a bigger mistake to fold when your hand is way ahead of your opponent's range.

Try these five things when you next play.

1. Keep it simple.
2. Use position.
3. Avoid tough spots.
4. If in doubt fold.

Other things as well obviously.

Let the other people at the table

1. Complicate things for themselves.
2. Play out of position.
3. get into tough spots

etc.
