    Default Need some help

Hi, I have been attempting to become a solid SnG multi-tabler for a while now. But I have met no success. I subscribed to grinderschool and took notes on a lot of the SnG videos there. I memorized a push/fold chart that one of the instructors provided. I play the $3.40 turbos on PokerStars; I play very tight up to the 10-12BB level and thats when I start playing push/fold poker.

I always see people saying that the $3.40s are soft, or cake, or easy money. But I am consistently a losing player. I review a lot of my games through SnG Wiz (I do adjust the calling ranges properly, or so I think), and for the most part, I make +EV pushes and +EV folds. I multitable around 12-16 tables at once, as I feel any lower amount is too slow and too easy. I am so sick of SnGs because it is just lose lose lose for me.

I would just like some advice as to what some of you solid SnG players have done to find and correct leaks in your game. i also wish to know what you do in order to review your games and fine tune your strategies. I am at a loss as I just can't figure out how to beat these games despite thinking that I do everything right.

Will post some hand histories in the following few posts

    Thanks for your help

    Re: First torney history
Don't have time to do a full review, but at a glance you seem to do well at playing tight, (easy I guess when seriously multitbbling) but I think you aren't steeling enough. eg between hands 5 & 6 there were lotz of options to stell from SB. This is an essential part of a SnG, and you are just losing chips if you don't take advantage of them.
I'm the king of bongo, baby I'm the king of bongo bong.

tourney 1 generally looks ok to me. but as DanAronG has stated your missing oportunities to steal. this is probably due to playing so many tables.

I dont really like to review full tourneys as I don't think i'm qualified enough lol...

keep posting tourneys and hands on here for review. Personally I think 12-16 tables is way too much for someone just learning. I think if you knocked 3/4 of they tables off you'd start to win more. Then when you've plugged your leaks you can add more tables as you go.

    just my 2c good luck

I was just commenting on this but I don't feel that the $3.40 turbos on Poker Stars are nearly as soft as they used to be. It's getting much harder to win there because most players are sticking around a lot longer. Your history proves this at least for this tourney. You were at level 6 (100/200) and there are still 9 players remaining. At the beginning of the year when I was exclusively playing these, we'd be on or within two of the bubble.

All that being said, you need to cut down on your number of tables. There is an optimum amount you can play and you need to find it. For instance, if you make $5/hour playing one table and $3/hour playing 4 tables, then it would make more sense to play the 4 tables as your per hour is $12. If however you play 10 tables and you're making $10/hour then it's less efficient to play.

OK, I will do a quick review of the first tourney.

Hand 1 - Minor note, but I think I may have c/c'd one more street here. The benefit is that if it gets checked behind on the turn then you lead out on the river it may look like you are trying to steal the pot so you may get called wider.

:Kc: :Qc: between hands one and two - I would have opend this from UTG+1

:Qh: :Kh: between hand 1 and 2- Please tell me you didn't fold this after 3 callers

If you have SNG Anlayzer you should check the following hands as I bet a few of them are +ev to shove

    Between hands 3 and 4
    :Qc:
    :Th:
    :Th:

    Between hands 4 and 5

    :Jc:

:Kc: - Between 4 and 5 - As tight as you had been (you only played 1 hand in the last 26) you could probably steal with this

:Js: - Without knowing stack sizes I would think a shove here HAS to be +ev

:Ks: - This may be a shove also

:Qd: - Ditto with this one

    - heads up with a stack as small as your I shove this all day

Hand 10 - Shove, don't standard raise wtih your stack. Raise folding here would be a horrible line

With the exception of missing some potential shove opportunities you played this pretty well. If you haven't already done so I would recommend purchasing SNG Analyzer so you can review your games to see spots where you missed shove opportunites as that appears to be your biggest weakness.

What's your GS Screenname? Make sure you use Glitlr's push/fold chart for SNGs it should help you more than mine has.

i've studied glitlr's pf chart so much, i even have flash cards for it

To Raoni, I rarely don't make non-shove steals without the top 10-15% of cards. Is this a leak? You recommended making a steal with K2o on the BTN with 13-14 BB. I don't think I would do that with even K9o.
  10. #10
And I have SnG Wiz, I'm pretty sure this is similar to SnG Analyzer?
  11. #11
if you are saying you only 'steal' with the top 15%, yes, that is a leak
  12. #12
I'd like to echo the suggestion to cut back on the tables, your T1 really shows how many good spots you are missing.

As for T2, I don't really see anything that needs changing, just looks like you weren't meant to win that one

What I mean by this, is that if I have 12+ BB, I am very tight, regardless of the average stack size, the blind level.
For example if I have 3000 chips, and the blind level is 100/200
    my opening ranges are
    EP: 99+ AQ+
    MP: 88+ AJ+
    HJ: 77+ AT+
    CO: 66+ A9+
    BTN: 44+ A6+
    SB: 22+ A2+ K9+ QJ+

However, when I drop below 10 BB, I get into push/fold mode and for the most part, make +EV shoves and usually don't miss many. I can see now that multitabling is causing me to miss a lot of close ones however.
  14. #14
I don't know if its correct or not, but with 12+ BBs, I would put in a standard raise in late position with a much wider range in order to steal. I would definitely raise K9s+, any Ace and any pair on the button, plus some more hands besides. It mostly seems to work in the $3.40s, particularly if you have been tight.
