An argument could be made that there are less problems associated with marijuana use if it was controlled the same as alcohol. Nobody could ever tell me the a logical reason nor the difference between the two and why one is legal and one is not. If I had my choice to pick which should be legal and which should not, I would pick pot. I think less harm is done on both public roads and in private homes by people who smoke. This all excludes teenagers of course. I think the difference in the health of a nation would be better off too if alcohol was the illegal one.

FWIW, This has all been said by someone who drinks occasionally and hasn't smoked pot in 20 years.

bolded for emphasis. but i should be legal, and that was my point. we live in an insane society that they can tell us we can drink a beer, smoke a cigarette, but stay away from this plant that does no harm. if the govt was really out to protect us, cig/alc would be illegal and marijuana would be legal. it's silly.

calling smoking marijuana a crime is insane, it's a victimless crime if it should be considered a crime at all.

the only reason people are overreacting and are in shock is because of this crazy taboo of propaganda that goes into what we think weed is. no one stops to think and question why weed is illegal yet other drugs flourish for billions of dollars every year.

Tobacco and alcohol are legal because the federal government makes an insane amount of money off of them via taxes. They have also been an integral part of the US since its existence. It's hard to change the status quo.

Everyone also has this misconception that the government actually cares about you or is in any way logical when it comes to things other than money (i.e. trying to get more of it). lol

The biggers problems imo:

lobbyists from legal drugs have tons of money (don't forget scripts in addition to smokes/booze).

they know once weed goes other drugs will follow and they use the drug laws to put away people they can't catch doing other stuff. Also they put a lot of poor people in jail which is always useful

The first congressman that tries and fails gets auto unelected in most districts so I think it's going to have to be a second term president or something.


Prison overcrowding is probably the best hope to get something done soon.
