Your job is a risk but it isn't lost yet. Use every last bit of time you have to stock away extra funds. Hopefully you'll keep your job, and end up with a little extra savings. If worse comes to worse, is severance likely? I'm not sure what the ecomony is doing in the UK, but I imagine it's not much better than the US.
As far as going 'pro', I'm neutral. I think this decision should be based 100% on your current stake and your win rate. If simply playing more at your current level will provide sustainable income, then go for it. If you would need to move up stakes or add funds to your bankroll, then don't.
If I lost my job right now, poker would become a luxury that I would have to put aside until I found gainful employment again. Hopefully I could do this without having to cash in my bankroll, but it would be an easy decision to make if it came down to it.
