That said, I think he really is done. On one hand I'm going to miss watching him (I'm not even a Pack fan), but on the other hand, I think Rogers deserves a shot.

I've been pondering this for a few days now. What is it about Brett Favre that everybody loves?

It seems like EVERYBODY loves this guy. Even people who aren't packers fans and in some cases, even people who aren't football fans. Don't get me wrong.. I'm not trying to bash him because I like him myself. Is it because he used to go face to face with big d-linemen (Sapp)? The addictions that he overcame? Because people can relate to him because he comes off as a normal guy? Because so many people love him and this just perpetuates itself?

I honestly can't put a finger on it.

For me, this is part of it. But more than that, he's a guy who works hard, obviously has fun doing what we all dream of (while so many other players act like it's just a life they were stuck with, poor bastards making millions per year) and this while being a great player.

He's the kind of guy that I would want my son to look up to as a sports hero(if he was old enough).

He also reminds me a lot of my favorite athlete ever, Nolan Ryan, who I liked for mostly the same reasons, and who I looked up to as my sports hero as a kid.

Also, especially being a true homer, Steve Largent, Cortez Kennedy, Mack Strong, Ken Griffey Jr., Jay Buhner, and Edgar Martinez are right up there for me too.

Also, without Favre, who else could we joke about John Madden giving head to before games?

As a lifelong Packer's fan, he always made the games exciting, for better or for worse. People love him because he came to work every day with passion and put himself out on the field each week. He wasn't perfect, but he made his mistakes at full speed without hesitation. People admire a person that enjoys the hell out of what they do, and is not afraid to step out of the routine and try something out of the ordinary, even if they fail sometimes.

Way too often I remember games where he would pass the ball, the camera would focus on the ball, and you had no clue what was going to happen. It could be a wide open completion, horrible interception, pinpoint pass, or a pass to no one. More often then not though, it was a great completion or great play.

That uncertainty mixed with his personality, passion on the field and the hall of fame statistical results is why he is so memorable and likeable.

It is sad to see him go, but it was his time; he went out walking (rather than limping or in a haze like most players) and showed to everyone and himself he still has it.

I think Favre is kind of an everyman... who overcame addictions... basically never got hurt... who wants to retire so he can ride tractors and fish. He was also league MVP 3 times... that's supposed to be given to the best player in the league for that year... And he did it all while laughing and joking with his opponents in an ah-shucks kinda way... in addition to battling his own addictions, plus he also provided a few of those never forget kinda moments like when he went ape-shit in that game the day after his dad died.

Not to mention this noteworthy phrase: 'I'm in town to play the Dolphins, dumbass."

Can't judge the guy yet, he hasn't had any weapons yet. Troy Williamson was garbage so he couldn't throw the deep ball very much. I think he'll be decent in a few yrs.

ppl who hate favre just are just talking out of their ass because hes dominated the NFC north for 15 years. also the only ppl that hate him are bears and vikings fans, although im not sure why they even care, because each of those teams have been in super bowl contention about twice in 15 years, and i just wont even mention the lions, cause they are just lol. im not a big gb fan, kinda neutral, but favre is one of my favorite players. he's really fun to watch and is capable of making completely genius plays or complete bonehead plays. no one over looks the fact that he's a gun slinger and a bit of a cowboy, thats why hes all time leader in INT's as well as everything else. hes a team player and has the most fun out of anyone on the field week after week.
