{myspace/facebook story time!}

A girl from Kansas University came to our school to do her student teaching. She was decent, but probably didn't do a quality enough job to get a position at my school. One of the knocks on her was that she was too friendly with the kids. This is a common problem for student teachers. We're still students, and therefore "kids" to some degree, still being in college and all. There's a fine line you have to walk.

Anyway, on her last day of class she put her myspace (or facebook, one of the two) address on the board. She told everyone to go to the site so she could keep in touch. Her students went to the site and found these long (and vicious) rants posted about the kids she had just taught. She never used any names but it was pretty easy to figure out some of the students she was talking about. She threw down on the students, making fun of a few, calling others "dumb" or "retarded," made fun of some of the jocks, made fun of relationships between her students, etc, etc...and also talked bad about the staff and administration at my school...

Needless to say word spread like wild-fire at my school and everyone checked it out, including our administration. Kansas University was notified and she failed the semester. If she wants to get a teaching degree she will have to do it all over again, which means paying crazy tuition fees, having to teach every day, and *not* getting paid for it.

Moral of the story: I can't do the myspace or facebook. Not that I'd say anything bad about my kids, the staff/administration, or whatever...but because as a teacher I can't have my students reading stories and seeing pictures of my drunken shenanigans that take place almost every weekend.
