Seeking Bankroll Advice

OK. First, I'll admit I blew every dime I'd made at my home game when I sat down at a game that was substantially beyond my BR. Since then, however, I took down $800 in a live free-roll, and then last night took down $300 at a 1/2 game (again, playing beyond my bankroll -- something I ought to quit doing).

I spent some time talking to LeFou about this, and I would like some more input. Here are the things I am kicking around:

1. reactivate my internet access, dump all that money into Netteller, and play exclusively online (except for my $20 home game).

2. reactivate the internet access, dump a couple of hundred into Netteller, and play mostly online at smaller stakes, saving the remaining cash to BR my homegame and others of simlar stakes.

3. say "screw the internet" and play at card rooms around town, focusing mostly on $20 to $40 tournaments until I'm able to build a sufficient BR to play 1/2 NL cash games regularly.


What say you kind folk?

If you keep is all for live tounries, do the spread low limit games incase you want to play that?

Will low stakes online poker keep your interest?

I say you use the net to build your bankroll first and then play live games. You can work on bonuses, get way more hands in per hour, buy pokertracker to work on your game, and talk strategy/post hands with everyone on here. Once you have a big enough bankroll, then go live if there are good games around you. It wouldnt take more than a few minutes to get your internet turned back on, neteller opened, and a couple accounts activated.

Plus I hear the online players are tougher than the live ones so maybe you can get some good practice in depending on where you play...


If you are playing for fun this may not be the way to go, but if you are leaning more towards making money then Id suggest building that bankroll online. Live play is a lot slower, no bonuses, and you can only play one table at a time so your $/hr is going to be lower. So get that BR big so you can play in some meaningful games!

Most of the rooms I've played will start up 1/2 games as tourney tables open up.

And if by "low stakes" you mean .50/1 and 1/2 games, sure...but the micro limits bore me (though I'm sure, to some, 1/2 IS a micro limit).

I'm not yet at the point where I'd be comfortable (or bankrolled) to sit at 2/4, so I've got a ways to go before 1/2 gets tiresome.

I think I can be successful enough often enough at the $20 to $40 range in tourneys that I'll be able to build a sufficient 1/2 NL bankroll. I'm sitting on $1100 now, so all I need to do is increase that about 20-fold, right?

But there's also my home game, which is REALLY low-stakes at this point, and I know of a .50/1 NL game, as well as a few other home games (one of which I can absolutely CRUSH).

So, as you can see, I like the live games, but I also recognize the profit potential of OL play.

Advice?

Online play is tougher. You say that you don't like the microlimits online. With $1100 you're not properly bankrolled for full buy-in .5/1 NL ring games. Plus, on most sites, you'll be facing tougher competition than you would for comparable stakes at a live game.

If you're playing .5/1 and 1/2 limit, then I agree that you should do at least some of your time online for bonus availability, assuming it'll keep you happy.

Yea it wouldnt take you long at all to build that bankroll online. You sound like you know what youre doing so might as well get some more cash behind ya.
