It is simply a matter of time and experience, once you decide to fold it is irrelevant what cards come next. All you have to ask yourself is did you make the correct play with the information you had at that time....if so then you are playing good poker. Folding pocket 2s to a raise and a reraise....then two deuces flop can be disapointing, but if you dealt that hand out 100 times how often would you really win. Play good poker and the wins/money will come

It can be very easy to get aggrivated by a hand that would have been made at the turn or river. But think about this the way any good player makes money is by their opponents mistakes. Whether it be a call that gives them terrible pot odds or being able to rep that scare card. Yes there will come time when you have QQ and the board comes A x x and you fold on a pot sized bet and the Q comes on the turn. But theres usually a very good reason you did that (reads and such). You don't want to be the guy making mistakes that others are making money off of. You want it to be the opposite. Just think to yourself was there anyway I'm going to call that bet in hopes of hitting a queen because 9 times out of 10 it isn't coming. And if you betting $20 to see that turn your talking about some serious -EV. |

I'm just relieved this wasn't a thread about the mechanics of dealing cards.

Iused to play Kx and Qx because I would see flops that gave me great hands after I folded them. Getting beaten with these hands has cured me of this. I have also learnt to lay down a Q high flush at the river (when necessary) by getting beaten by the A high more than once. I got cured of playing Axo most of the time by getting beating by Ax - something higher often enough. Get top pair - poor kicker beaten by TPGK often enough and you will surrender.

yesterday, long story short, i folded an inside straight flush draw to heavy betting. would've made the straight flush for a call of ~1/6th of my stack. two other people in the hand ended up going for it on the river, maybe 80 dollar pot i would've had in a .25/.50 room.
