I 3bet a tight villain with AQo, I flop TPSK.

Villain is running 15/5/0 over 55 hands. Seems pretty tight to me. I got AQo on button, decide to 3bet him and see where he's at. Villain flat calls me so immediately I'm putting him on something like 88-JJ, AQs, AK.
I test the waters on the flop, slow down on turn, fearing a check, raise. Should I have checked river again?

my only note on him so far is: "flat call 3bet for set. r big, no slowplay 1/1"
Maybe I should have listened to my note? Arggh totally hating myself for fearing check, raises.

I test the waters on the flop

So first you put in a raise that according to your read doesnt make much sense "to see where he´s at" and then you bet the flop "to test the waters" and still you have to post this hand on the forums. You have just proven that betting and raising for info is kinda stupid, learn to find better reasons to put money in.

That being said, I dont think 3betting preflop is terrible IF villian opens fairly wide and really does setmine in 3bet pots oop. Sample is small and stuff, but this type of player usually limps behind the smaller pairs especially with the pot already opened (b/c they call anyway) which doesnt leave much of a range we want to 3ball against. Flop and turn are played well, now Id bet river again for 1.75ish

Fold AQ versus a raise from a nit. As played though your flop and turn play is fine. I would bet the river though once it is checked to me. I doubt you are gonna find many 2nl peeps that can check 3 streets with a big hand. I think a lot of his 99+ hands and smaller queens will pay you off

OK so basically fold pf even if sample is small b/c his stats show so far that he is a nit until proven otherwise.

It was a surprise that what he ended up having was way lower than the range I put him on. He was totally setmining 44<-- I use that term properly?
Should I add additional notes or will playing with him more just even his stats out?

'and see where he's at' You can pretty much say that every time you do anything.. Also try not to include the result of the hand in your posts. I think a 3bet is generally bad here against this player

how many hands is it safe to judge these people by tracker stats? I find 200 is an okay size but rare to get a sample >100 hands. At these stakes & on ftp, you generally dont run into the same people very often.

I see nothing wrong with raising someone with such stats. I think the way to figured out value for your 3-bet is really dependent on how tight his 3 bet calling range is if it is just as wide as his raising then you will be in trouble but if he only calls his pockets (which many do) and 4 bet shoves kk-aa,ak then you can get away with it.

I really hate your river check. He is very unlikely to have ak here and you may get money out of his jj-kk. The risk of him raising here is very low, based on stats provided. Plus he may even drop aqs? Someone call me a moron or back me up.

hand is fine imo except i bet about $1.50 on river because his line indicates his range is pretty weak (i would have estimated TT-KK without being told the results) and our turn check may induce a river call from this range. 3betting pre is questionable. i probably wouldnt because i own myself when i 3bet
