$2NL note taking

Just wondering if most or any players at $2NL actually take notes on the opponents as I am trying to take notes and find out how they play. But I realised that I am playing quite tight and standard so if someone was paying attention to how I am playing they could exploit me quite a bit, like 3 betting light etc. Is this something to worry about at the minute?? Or wait till I/if I move up stakes????

I meant 3 betting light from the blinds btw, against my button/co open.

3-betting light and 2NL don't really go together IMO. I've never played at that level but I'm almost positive that weak-tight, ABC poker is the most profitable/least variance style. Making moves (FPS) isn't going to work against these guys.

There's nothing wrong with taking notes at 2NL though. You're probably not going to run into the same players much (unless you're table selecting for feesh) but still, taking [good] notes is an art form and practice makes perfect.

You are not seriously suggesting you dont bother with notes , because maybe nobody else is ? Like its a fashion statement ?



I do take notes at $2NL, you should , build them up over time, you'll be please you did. It makes you money short term because you are focused on the table , right there and then.

Its better to sit at a table ,in the future, to find you have notes on most of your opponents, you can only get to that position through taking notes whenever you can. Thats when it starts to pay off long term.

If someone 3bets you light , they do it reguardless of what notes you have. And if they have notes on you, good luck to them , your playing tight , you should have not too much to worry about, and you notes will tell you if you have seen them 3betting light previously.

If you dont get into the habit of note taking now, it will be harder to start when you move up.

Not that many players at 2nl pay enough attention to take notes and are able to exploit others. If they do resteal, it's more likely their natural tendency rather than an adjustment to your play. Most think "He better not be stealing MY blinds, I 3bet, HA he folded! I'm so smart!", rather than "He raising X range from the btn and will fold the Y part of his range if I 3bet, which is profitable for me".

Adjust your own play according the situation, or change seats if you want, but mostly just stay tight and bet for value (too many players can't even find the fold button). Taking notes is good as you get a better feel how certain player types play their range.

no i meant if players are taking notes on me, and trying to take advantage of my tight play should i try and adjust back by being looser etc.. I realise how my post sounded like should i take notes or not but i am going to carry on taking notes lol

I didn't worry about anything to do with 3betting until I got to $50NL. As many fish and as few good regulars as there are to that point when I was playing, I considered it fancy play syndrome. Keep in mind, I play full ring, so if you're playing 6max or HU, then the point where you need to worry about 3betting may be earlier than full ring.

As for taking notes, YES, you should be taking copious amounts of notes at EVERY level at EVERY game. You need to know how to exploit the really bad players and the really good players and everyone in between. The more you exploit, the more you will win, the faster you will move up. Good luck.

I can't say that I have ever noticed other microstakes players adjusting and trying to exploit me, but maybe I have not been able to spot it. I would think that playing looser because you think someone is exploiting your tight play at 2NL is probably a mistake unless you are really, really sure that is what is happening.

you will always be exploitable. the only thing that matters is how much you make from being so exploitable compared to how much villain makes from exploiting you. At 2nl, you'll find that people there arent even playing on level 0 correctly (what do i have?) much less thinking on level 1 correctly (what does he have?), so you can pretty much be as exploitable as you possibly can in order to exploit the millions of mistakes these players are making.

I have heard that people who dont take notes , have access to tracking satelites that can monitor your facial tells and relay them to opponents. To counter this. I have a colonder wrapped in tinfoil on my head . Leak fixed.
