Im having trouble in high SPR spots....

I tend to freeze up and assume the worst when I find myself deep with just an overpair.

This game is equivelant to 25NL but is played in a different currency.

My reads on the players are as follows:

1. Player directly to my left plays 17/12/2 in this session but is normally playing more like 25/17. In addition we have gone to the boxing ring on numerous occassions in the past few days and he seems particularly aggressive against me. We have stacked off 3 times in 3 bet pots in the last 15 minutes. I am actually surprised by the call and am not sure what it means but if I had to guess I would imagine either a small pair or broadway cards. He "definitely" never has 10's+. I tend to give this guy a bit of credit for being a thinking player although I have him as a big loser over a smallish sample at the moment.

2. The player in the blinds is something like 76/13/3. I just doubled through him in the previous hand where he called 3 streets of value against my flopped straight. He had busted flush draw and caught top pair on the river. His range to call here is probably just about any two cards taking into account a bit of tilt factor.

I am not going to post the whole hand as yet as I am more interested in what peoples thoughts are on this flop texture in this spot.

Is this a flop where you happy to get all the money in? Does SPR dictate we go straight into pot control mode here and if so what does that mean to our line on the flop? Or should I be thinking about what line will get me the most value when this board is unlikely to have hit either of my opponents at all (and if it has am I not probably beat)?

I think I become to easily paranoid that this is a spot where I win a small pot or lose a big pot!

I typically try not to stack off with overs if I can't 3bet them preflop. This has to do with your SPR you are asking. Only getting 8 or 10 BB in the pot pre makes for an SPR of around 9 or 10. That make s it very hard to not give odds for chasing dreams. Villains implied odds are huge in this situation. If your not willing to stack off here his preflop calls become tougher for him to make money on with marginal hands.

OTOH, if I cn get a 3 bet in, or am vs a shorty this is going for stacks as soon as possible.

On this hand, there is no way I am giving him credit for A8s, 88 or 22. He has so much here that would probably stack off including 99+ and some FD's depending on what you think his calling range was from the blinds. You have a block to the FD, your hand is still fairly under repped adn you have history. IF he Cbets I am raising now, if he checks I will Cbet about 2/3 and see how he reacts. I'm getting this in.

I guess its not to necessary to get hung up on SPR theory. The basic question I was trying to get at is how bad is it to go broke so deep with Aces in these kind of spots.

I played this hand really badly. Went straight into check call mode because I was terrified of being bluffed off my hand. As it turned out I caught three streets of "bluffs" from the player to my left but I hated the way I played it regardless...

Anyway, I posted it as much as a means to try and exorcise my deamons as for any other reason. So I think I agree with you jyms... if necessary I probably have to be prepared to get it in here.
