    Default C-Bet on a whiff...

Hey guys new to the forum so excuse me if I'm not up to date on the etiquette. Got a question for those of you who are more experienced. This happens more often than not, and I need some advice on how to handle it.

Let's say I raise the standard 3x PF with AQo in position, get two weak-tight callers and whiff on the flop of 592 rainbow. I have read you should C-Bet on the flop regardless about 2/3 pot. But I have also read to check the flop and bet/raise the turn on a bluff if your reads show weakness. Let's say you don't put anyone on trips or two pair, since they called the raise you can safely put them on face\face or mid pair no? If there was a big pair in the hole, you would mostly hear about it PF no?

Most of the time I don't improve on the turn, or the river min betting all the way and get called down by a like a single pair. Is there a better approach in this situation? I don't want to play it passive on this non connected board and I can't seem throw it away. Happens alot, any advice is appreciated. Thanks ahead of time guys !!!!

It depends (standard FTR answer, btw).

Reads are important, flop texture is important. When you c-bet a garbage flop in position you're more likely to get called by pps that aren't convinced you have anything, so you've got to decide if you're likely to get a fold by firing a second barrel on the turn when checked to (reads). A lot of opps will auto-call the flop and fold to the turn bet if you're telling a convincing story.

Most of the time I don't improve on the turn, or the river min betting all the way and get called down by a like a single pair.
Min-betting later streets isn't convincing. Remember what you're representing and bet accordingly if you're betting, or don't bet at all.

    And don't c-bet calling stations.

    Welcome to FTR.

Generally its not a good idea to C-bet into more than 1 opp.

I wouldnt bother with the min bet here ever. If youre trying to push a small pair off the hand, you wont achieve it with a min bet

    Welcome to FTR.

There was an excellent thread written recently by TLR on c-betting. It is well worth a read.

If you do c-bet, what to do on the turn will depend on what the turn card brings, and whether one or both players called the c-bet on the flop.

Thank you guys, I appreciate all your responses. I have to admit, the advice you all have given has shed some light on the subject, more than I was able to figure out myself. I am now better prepared for this situation and have some more options on what line to take. I look forward to becoming a better player with all your assistance and look forward to become a part of the FTR Community. Have a great day guys !!!!

One thing I've been told over and over by some of the better ring games players is that when you bet you want to achieve a few things. 1) Better hands fold......2)Worse hands call......3)Protect a vulnerable hand.....

And if you have read "Renton's ABCD Theorem" the above reasonings on why to bet go hand in hand. According to the theorem, your Range A hands are yours monsters, therefore, there are gonna be alot of worse hands that are gonna pay you off, so you bet to build a pot. Your Range C, D hands are your weaker/air hands. You should be c-betting these hands a good majority of the time because you can't win a pot any other way, and a bet will get alot of better hands to fold.

So when determining on whether to c-bet or not think about their possible holdings and what your bet would accomplish. If no better hands fold, and no weaker hands call, don't cbet. A prime example is generally KK on an Axx board. If you are oop in a HU pot and bet, what better hands fold? Nothing. What worse hands call? Sometimes weaker pairs will call, but not usually. Therefore, generally it's better to check, and probably call a bet from your opponent.

Hope that helps some. And I hope it isn't too far off base and incorrect. =)
