Is it ever a mistake to call a min raise from the BB?

Your getting 4 to 1 if its folded around to you in the big blind, your calling with any 2 cards right if you dont have a hand to raise with.
(in a situation where your M is above 6)

I always call mini-raises in the BB with anything that slightly resembles a hand. Most of the time it's a PP or connector or Ax. Sometimes it's a good hand on the button that wants to keep the blinds in the pot. I always hope it's the latter and I score a really weird straight.

miniraising is wrong, when people will call 3bbs raises anyway in cash games.
In tourny play, you should be raising for isolation/value purposes

Don't you guys see any downsides in calling a min raise just because you get good odds? You have to play the whole hand OOP, you'll probably have to make some very tough decisions when you flop bottom / middle pair with your 84o.

You are oop with a marginal hand. Ouch! Of course, you can call with suited cards that look connected (like 84s and stuff like that) but not with stuff like J2o. I would much prefer 84s than A2o in that spot. I think that suited and connected cards go way up in value. However, it is better to fold than to play oop with that kind of a hand.

Who raised? From which position? What's your chances of making a big hand?

Calling UTG raises from tight players with garbage hands is a recipe for disaster, especially if they are unlikely to pay you off when you make a hand.

I'd rather reraise or fold a garbage hand to a late position minraise, depending on how tough/tricky the opponent is.

In this situation, you should really be evaluating how likely you are to flop a hand with which you can continue. Flopping 2nd or 3rd pair with unsuited, unconnected cards is often not enough to allow you to continue, which really devalues these hands.

If a donk raises from EP, you can call liberally with 48s, hoping to break him if it comes something strong on flop. However, if you just get pair of 8, fold. It isn't about odds, it is about opponent. Otherwise, you can call with what you would call otherwise in LP.
