Betting for value and correct play
This is for all poker players, this will clear up every problem you have had with betting. I have been reading this poker form for close to two hours now just scrolling though and everyone is giving the same advice to the same questions. ok, you ready, here it is, the big secret.
RAISE EVERYTHING, and when i say everything i mean, everything. If you come out of any position betting preflop, you better fire out the same bet on the flop, make them pay to see everything. This doesnt mean to take it to the extreme that rippy does, even though it works for him I tried some of his tactics and it gets you into some pretty tough decisions and unless you have great reads at everyone at the table i suggest you practice first. If you hit top pair on the flop and you bet like i said to do and someone raises you reraise back, if it is good enough to call it is without a dought good enough to raise, if you get reraised then you have to use your head, but atleast your showing some sort of offense, if you just call defense cannot win you the game. Just so we are clear, i dont mean to go wild and push all in everytime you raised, calling is fine sometimes but a majority of the time why not raise and see where you stand. I will give three examples of hands and explain what I am talking about.
Hand #1 raise preflop and missed flop (3 way game, no limit holdem)
i will use the same people in all three of my examples.
we are the HERO, Hero is dealer and is delt AKo, you raise preflop 4xbb and get one caller, flop is 259, opponent checks and you bet (in this situation you dont totally mind a call since that shows weakness you could prob get him to fold later, if he raises your bet, reraise back if its a WEAK RAISE, if he shows strenght then get out, but not all raises show STRENGHT, some raises are just to raise and your opponent doesnt have anything either, so say he doubles your bet on the flop, double or triple his bet right back, most of the time you will take it down right there, but you could either get reraised and then fold or he could just call and then move on to the turn and since he showed WEAKNESS first you will most likley take it from him later.)
Hand #2 raised preflop and get reraised preflop
you have AK you bet out 4xBB and BB raises 8xBB in this situation call his raise and see what the flop brings, and play accordingly, depending on your table image, and i say YOUR TABLE IMAGE cause your opponent is no longer playing his cards like you are he is playing your cards, this point never seems to get across to people. Your OPPOSITION is playing your image and his reads on you keep him guessing, thats why it is so important to raise more then it is to call.
Hand #3 raise preflop, hit, bet the flop and get raised
You have AK agian and you raise 4xBB preflop and get one caller, the flop comes K48 you bet and get raised i dont ever want to see another post where you just call and ask what did i do wrong, you need to raise at this point, even if you dont have AK, if you have Kx it doesnt matter (KK i would just call to slowplay) you need to find out where you stand in the hand so you can play the rest out. Double your opponents raise and see what he does. if you have AK your prob ahead in this specific situation so dont worry if you get called.
reraising is one of the most unused golden moves someone can do, its a giant nuke that people choose to use only when they have monster hands. I would also with a reraise say that roughly 35-40% of the time even if you are behind in the hand you can get your opponent to fold the best hand, since they think if you reraise their raise you must have a good hand so, it can work even if you dont have anything.

I posted this on a another post but i thought it worked to show what I am talking about. The raise on the turn made my opponent think i had somthing i didnt, and then when i checked the turn it was like i was slowplaying (notice how obvious i made it seem that i had an ace and was slowplaying) then the bet on the river sealed the deal, you dont need a hand to show aggression.
This doesnt mean throw your chips all over the place being an aggressive moron but look carefully for situations where you can exploit your opponents and make them sweat. Also so we are clear this doesnt mean that it sometimes isnt correct to just check or call, you dont have to be betting every flop and reraising everytime someone comes over the top of you. Just look out for situations where you can get back at the raise that came in front of you.
Also if you are unsure of what your opponent has and are feeling a little twards the your behind dont be afraid to fold and wait for a hand where you dont think your opponent is so strong, and totally dominate him. We want to play in favorable situations, so if your not sure fold.
The whole point I am trying to get at if i havent made it painfully obvious yet is if you are scared to be playing, to scared to put in raises and reraises then you might want to find a new hobby, poker is like war and the money is the all the land you are trying to conqure, and the cards and your table attitude is all you have to fight with, so grab your m-16 put on your war face and give you opposion hell cause you are not there to let them take over your conqured area go after theirs and make them bow down!!!
