Celebrate bad calls

Been reading my ToP and I know you're supposed to root for the opp to make a bad call. And when they do, you're supposed to be all happy.

I still can't do it though; I just came from a table full of whackoffs, where I played smart for an hour, winning a decent amount of money, and then lost it to a bad call that hit. Of course I stopped playing.

For the curious: I flopped a flush playing 23 suited, and overbet the pot. The turn was another spade, giving any spade the flush as well. Oh, and giving me four to the straight flush, so I was semi-forced to call and see if the river would save me. It didn't.

But on a different note - That's one of the major incentives to playing limit holdem for me. It seemed in NL I would grind out a decent profit by winning hand after hand after hand. Then lose it all with 1 dumb play, or 1 lucky river. In limit, I seem to restrict my wins slightly, but it seems to restrict my loses greatly.

Yes, there were five or so people in on a cheap flop so 23s plays. My big bet on the flop narrowed it down to just me and one other -- we were more or less tied for chip lead at about $30 -- at a .25/.50 table

So it wasn't "pot commitment" that made me call on the turn (when I had 4 to the SF), it was the implied odds. For $5 or so I was set to take his whole stack. (Pot was $20 or so at this time). Plus there was a (tiny) doubt in my mind that he held a spade anyway, since he hadn't raised me.

On the whole there's not much interesting about the hand; I was just whining.

Very tempting... my biggest successful run was a few months ago, when I had just started playing poker and Limit HE was all I ever played.

I surmise:
- that there's a bit more fishplay in limit, because so many beginners start there, e.g. me.
- the fishplay there is more profitable/less annoying than in NL because your bad beats do not rattle you as much, and you spend more time playing decently.

But that:

- consistent winning there is more scientific, more ABC, than the way I usually play. This style needs to be in a player's arsenal, of course, but I have a lot of studying to do before I feel Great about LHE.

I used to think that I played too "fun" to consider playing limit. However, I'm one of the least mathmatical people here and I'm OK in the limit rooms.

bad calls = implied odds? correct?

you can't predict what they have, but if they catch whatever they're going for, u are in for a big loss.
