Default Small stakes FR cash games

I've been a very casual poker player for years. I've considered myself a student of the game all this time. I've played tons of hands for play money, with my friends in home games, read tons of books, etc.

A few weeks ago I decided I wanted to get a little more serious so figured I'd throw a small deposit on PS and mess around. I had some immediate success with .01/.02 and .02/.05 games. Built my roll up just a little and then cashed in a few 45-person 3.40 games. I know it was a little quick but I then jumped up to some more cash games playing .10/.25 and even a few sessions of .25/.50. I know what you are saying. I'm playing above my bankroll.

I've also kept mixing in some micro stakes SNG but with not tons of success. My success has truly been the FR cash games. I'm certain I haven't seen any variance yet so I guess I've just been running good for a few days but I've been playing a pretty tight/aggressive style. Is it normal for the cash games to go this well if played correctly? I'm just kind of wondering where to go from here.

My deposit of 20 bucks was Thursday last week (I didn't play at all Friday and most of Saturday. My current bankroll is $183.00.

Play 5nl for another 25k hands. If you win over that sample, proceed to 10nl. Drop back down to 5nl if you get down to $175 or so.

First off welcome to FTR it's great to see new members.

Do yourself a favor and jump off the luck wagon while you're way ahead. Get off the luck wagon and get on the smart train ie proper bankroll management. This will insure that if you are a better player than most your path to true success will continue to be short. You are properly rolled to be playing 5nl for now. Do that until you cross over the $250-$300 mark, I personally like the $300 but you will here anywhere from 20 bi's and up. All this will insure that once variance comes your way you'll survive. TAG will win pretty consistently at micro-ring, although I suspect it does involve sacrificing some amount of win rate for some decrease in variance. As for determining if you're actually a winning player or have just run hot, the more hands you play, the better the indication you'll have.

That said, if you want to try a level or two higher now, go for it. Set aside a couple of buyins and give it a shot. If you lose that money, it won't destroy your roll. And if you win and feel comfortable, you can evaluate on that basis taking your entire poker funding situation into account, not just the amount you have on Stars.
