Is this line Ok? Got lucky on the river...
Hey, guys
After a period of downswing, I managed to get very successfull sessions lately. In almost 300 hands (yes, my sessions are short and I play in 4-tables) I won 681 big blinds.
I am trying basically to avoid spots of huge variance, such as stacking off PF with AK (I'm folding OOP for 3bets and flatting or 3 betting IP). I managed to fold QQ PF after UTG nit raise + MP reraise (they had both KK and AA).
I wonder what do you think of this line here. First hand of the session, no notes, guy has a history of 28/13 over 53 hands and was stealing 33%. I noticed that the tables were fairly aggressive and the following happened:
No-Limit Hold'em, $0.10 BB (6 handed) - Hold'em Manager Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com
CO ($12.84)
Button ($14.19)
SB ($11.95)
Hero (BB) ($10)
UTG ($11.89)
MP ($18.18)
Preflop: Hero is BB with J , J
4 folds, SB bets $0.35, Hero raises $1.05, SB calls $0.75
Flop: ($2.30) A , 10 , 7 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks
Turn: ($2.30) A (2 players)
SB bets $1.50, Hero calls $1.50
River: ($5.30) J (2 players)
SB bets $3.50, Hero raises $7.35 (All-In), SB calls $3.85
Total pot: $20
Results below:
SB had Q , A (three of a kind, Aces).
Hero had J , J (full house, Jacks over Aces).
Outcome: Hero won $19
Summary:
I 3bet JJ assuming that he would steal very wide here. He calls. People usually defend that ace high flops are great to bluff micro players. However, I think that:
i) A-x is a huge part of his range and he is never folding an ace
ii) I would play my hand as it was a bluff. If he has a medium PP he is folding because I'm representing the ace.
I checked behind for pot control and to extract value on later streets. Another A on the turn. He bets, I call (less A-X on his range and in my range too). Luckly, a J comes on the river and the raise is to extract value from an A.
The questions are:
1) What do you think about checking behind the flop?
2) Is the line of calling the turn ok?
3) What if a blank comes on the river? should I call his value bet? After my call on the turn, I dont think TT or worse would value bet here...perhaps a smaller blocking bet.
