Default Is this line Ok? Got lucky on the river...

    Hey, guys

After a period of downswing, I managed to get very successfull sessions lately. In almost 300 hands (yes, my sessions are short and I play in 4-tables) I won 681 big blinds.

I am trying basically to avoid spots of huge variance, such as stacking off PF with AK (I'm folding OOP for 3bets and flatting or 3 betting IP). I managed to fold QQ PF after UTG nit raise + MP reraise (they had both KK and AA).

I wonder what do you think of this line here. First hand of the session, no notes, guy has a history of 28/13 over 53 hands and was stealing 33%. I noticed that the tables were fairly aggressive and the following happened:

    No-Limit Hold'em, $0.10 BB (6 handed) - Hold'em Manager Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com
    CO ($12.84)
    Button ($14.19)
    SB ($11.95)
    Hero (BB) ($10)
    UTG ($11.89)
    MP ($18.18)
Preflop: Hero is BB with J, J
4 folds, SB bets $0.35, Hero raises $1.05, SB calls $0.75
    Flop: ($2.30) A, 10, 7 (2 players)
    SB checks, Hero checks
    Turn: ($2.30) A (2 players)
SB bets $1.50, Hero calls $1.50
    River: ($5.30) J (2 players)
SB bets $3.50, Hero raises $7.35 (All-In), SB calls $3.85
    Total pot: $20
    Results below:
SB had Q, A (three of a kind, Aces).
Hero had J, J (full house, Jacks over Aces).
    Outcome: Hero won $19

    Summary:

I 3bet JJ assuming that he would steal very wide here. He calls. People usually defend that ace high flops are great to bluff micro players. However, I think that:

    i) A-x is a huge part of his range and he is never folding an ace
ii) I would play my hand as it was a bluff. If he has a medium PP he is folding because I'm representing the ace.

I checked behind for pot control and to extract value on later streets. Another A on the turn. He bets, I call (less A-X on his range and in my range too). Luckly, a J comes on the river and the raise is to extract value from an A.

    The questions are:
    1) What do you think about checking behind the flop?
    2) Is the line of calling the turn ok?
    3) What if a blank comes on the river? should I call his value bet? After my call on the turn, I dont think TT or worse would value bet here...perhaps a smaller blocking bet.

Please keep in mind that I'm probably a lot worse than you, so I might be completely wrong.
I don't really like checking behind the flop, because there is a flush draw on the board and by checking we don't know if he has an ace. A check/raise would be ugly tho.
As played, I think the call on the turn is OK, because after you checked behind the flop he will bet here with almost everything he called your reraise preflop with and we only need 28.5% equity.

    Board: Ad Td 7h As
    Dead:

equity win tie pots won pots tied
    Hand 0: 29.115% 27.76% 01.35% 452 22.00 { JdJh }
    Hand 1: 70.885% 69.53% 01.35% 1132 22.00 { 99+, AQs+, KQs, AKo }

If you give him a range wider than this (maybe 88) a call should be good.

I the river is a blank, I would c/c a small bet and fold if he bets large.

    1) To check the flop is pretty std imo you have a hand with lots of showdown value and only sets/top pairs and draws continue to a cbet
    2) Don't think a passive 28/13 player is leading with a draw here for this size bet but he could do so with JTs, 9Ts, TT, 77, Ax, 88, 99, I don't think he'd lead with 22-66 being passive. There's plenty of hands that beat you and you've got 2 outs but due to the sizing, I'm ok calling and checking back the river
    3) If a blank comes and he vbets I'm folding all day. (And TT would defo value bet here)
Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups

This is super standard and fine. After checking flop there's no way in hell you can fold this turn.

River's a bit of a guessing game on a blank vs an unknown, since we have no idea about his bluffing frequencies. I'd probably mostly call though on a brick, depending on sizing and timing, expecting him to be flatting the 3 bet with a good amount of non A broadways he could be bluffing with.

Carroters, with respect, I just can't see a 28/13 player in this spot bluffing the river enough on a brick at this level often enough for it to be good to call when you look at his range
Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups

    1) std
    2) Yes
    3) I'm usually calling something like bets less than 60% of pot and folding to larger ones, calling bets less than 40% if draws get there

Him being 28/13 and this being 10NL basically says nothing at all about his bluffing frequencies. There are players like this who are aggro post flop and will jus fire 2 streets when you check flop and ones that wont, so yeah having no info is shitty. If he comes out blasting this river it's gonna be a fold, but with a decent price vs someone we essentially know nothing about calling a blank river can be fine.

    Well played.

If river is a blank then whether to call a bet depends on his sizing/timing, though I think it's a close spot where calling/folding isn't going to to be a big mistake in the long run.
