    Default 2 pair vs. set?

I think the most difficult thing for me to recognize is when someone flops a set, even when I flop TPTK but I feel more confident in folding that then vs. a set. When I raise on the button with AKo .40 at 10NL get a re-raise from SB. I call and flop comes Ac Ks 7s I raise half the pot... they re-raise x2 What do I do? I shoved all in got called and SB flipped over pocket 7s.

You played it fine, don't be results orientated. At 10NL you could easily have been up against A2o here.

It just seems that the times I lose the most money is when someone flops a set, either through a slow play or if I hit two pair.

It's called a cooler. Situations where you have no choice but to go broke. Example. You raise from the button with KK bb calls. Flop comes 5 8 2 rainbow. BB bets you raise BB goes all in for 100bb. You obviously call and he turns over AA . Folding in that spot because you fear AA or a set would be unprofitable in the long run because there are so many hands that you beat that the villain could play the exact same way.
Reload and move on is all you can do in situations like that.

    Default Tilt?

...Is this tilt? So, after getting felted from the set experience. I get dealt pocket 5s, I limp under the gun cut off raises .40 cents I call. 5 9 duece of clubs comes rainbow flop. I check cutoff raises .75 cents, I figure donk bet on flop or pocket 10s I re-raise and get called. 4 of clubs comes, cut-off goes all in, I smooth call cards flipped over he has K 10 of clubs and the 9 of clubs hits

A few hands later I get dealt KKs UTG and UTG + 1 limps I raise .70 cents BB and UTG + 1 calls. 4 7 10 rainbow. Beautiful flop. Perfect flop, should've slowplayed but was angry, just wanted to take pot down. I raise 1.75 BB calls UTG + 1 folds. 8 comes. All in, I flat call. flips over 78?! WHAT?!

After cooling down folding anything but monsters just so I cool off AQ diamonds gets dealt to me BB I'm feeling a little better so I feel okay, small blind raises me .50 cents, I figure he's stealing me cause he's been doing in the entire time i've been trying to calm down. so I re-raise him 2 dollars, he re-raises me 4 and I go all-in. at this point putting him on like...whatever donkeys play. I get called, flip over hands guess what? Ace 8 offsuit. Finally, I might get some of my money back...nope. Flop 88Q.

I go and smoke like...9 cigarettes in 4 minutes, come back. Tell myself you want to play with these people you make money off plays like this long term.

Next hand I'm feeling okay now got a buy in back, and i'm playing okay, 98 of hearts I limp on the button, sb completes and BB checks. J of diamonds and a 67of hearts comes. sweet. check check check 5 diamonds Awesome. 5 diamonds, straight, I shove 3 times the pot to protect my hand, get re-raised all-in think for a sec (this is where i'm wondering what I should have done) I call J10 diamonds(What? I'm surprised he didn't go all-in pre-flop!) ace of diamonds comes. I want to cry.

Last hand I play Aces get cracked by pocket 99s.

    Full tilt is right.

Am I playing any of these hands wrong? I'm now down like 85 bucks which was like...a third of my BR. That I had grinded from 50 bucks. I'm about ready to shoot somebody.

    That's a bitch, isn't it?

Rule #1 Make sets get paid.

See, it's a rule. Now what do you think happens when someone else makes a set?

I'm confused...the river gives you the boat.

As for everything else though, it sounds like you're getting your money in while you're ahead. Would you have played them any differently?

You just had a shitty session. Things should turn around as long as you don't go on a tilting spree.

    [Edit: I suck at reading]

nl holdem isn't about 'hitting sets and getting paid'. If you are playing anywhere close to optimally, you are going to have a set such a small % of the time that you can't only play big pots with sets.

flopping top 2 vs someone's bottom set in a 3-bet pot sucks. no way you're ever getting away in that spot.

It is one of the best feelings in poker to get it in with a set when you're crushing somebody, yes, but it doesn't happen all that often.

That's what I'm saying lukie. He hit a set, you got 2 pair, he's gonna get paid.

my bad.. i agree with that.. usually though when somebody says 'hit sets, get paid', i ASSume that they are saying that you should play like a set hunting nit. it's basically how i was taught how to play poker and i regret every minute of that.

And a question, how safe is it to go all in with top pair top kicker at 10NL, I've had AK or AQ or AJ or A10 and Flop comes with no flush and no straight and i'm wondering why they keep going all in. should I just do it?

possibly. but, thats more of an "opponent dependent" question. you need to know WHO your opponent is, and WHAT he's capable of stacking off with.

if he only takes 2 pair + to the felt, then, NO. you dont want to stack off with TPTK against that guy. however, last night, i started seeing a lot of showdowns with players stacking off with ANY TP. now, those are the guys i want to get AK all in with. i just couldnt match up last night.

however, with the note features...i better not ever see those idiots again. chances are i WILL catch them felting A8 sooner or later.
LHE is a game where your skill keeps you breakeven until you hit your rush of random BS.

Nothing beats flopping quads while dropping a duece!
