Standard resolution when a burn card flips over with yours

I found myself in an unfamiliar situation when playing a hand in a home game. I know for a fact that I wasn't dealt three cards and somehow a burn card or another players discard found its way too close to my cards so that when I flipped mine the foreign card flipped as well and appeared to be part of my hand. Is there a standard ruling regarding situations in which a third card is exposed when showing down a hand?

put a chip or some other type of protector on top of your cards. This will protect you from this type of situation. You have too many cards, your hand is dead.

If this was our home friendly game we would ask which two were initially yours and believed you.
In most games your hand will be declared dead.
However I think that if you have checked the burnt cards and see that the there were not enough burned cards as well then the entire hand is void
