It's a very common thing that BC bonks say, yes. The point is that even if you're playing your "A game" with 8-tables, you're stunting your growth as a poker player because you're too busy to pay attention and think things through as well as you could playing fewer tables.
Desperately clinging to your A-game while stunting your growth when your A-game sucks doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
Also, if you lack the discipline to play solid poker with fewer tables, and have no interest, motivation, or ability to cultivate such discipline, I'd suggest poker might not be the game for you.
