    meh...all newborns are fugly.

I think the edgy crown goes to dranger who commented "dibs" on my facebook birth announcement. While kiwi's incest angle is worse of course, it's buried in this thread instead on being displayed prominently on my family's facebook feed.

Especially when you consider that fastforward to when dranger's 40 and davenette is 17 if they met he'd 100% be able to talk himself into it not being bad form to take a swing at it

ugh, I misused it's. And it's weird, because I could swear that I remember checking myself as I was typing it, and being satisfied with what I had done. I try not to be a huge grammar nazi, but the misuse of your/you're/their/they're/there/it's/its really bothers me.

The combination of rage/drunk typing and not double checking leads to some pretty comical (note: not comincal) typos and misuse of words, even when you know better.

I don't get annoyed but I definitely lose a little respect for people that can't figure out when to use your/you're/their/they're/there. However, I find if I'm not paying attention to what I'm doing I often fuck up their/there which really annoys me because I totally understand when either is to be used but somehow that slips by me from time to time if I don't look things over.

I don't get why it pisses people off. If someone is trying to explain something to me and their poor grammar makes it difficult to understand then it would annoy me. But then I just listen to rhythm of life and feel happy again.

I think it's because that is something we're taught in like grade 4 or somewhere around that. Teachers constantly correct us for getting those mixed up. Then somehow all these people made it through 8 more years of required English classes still not understanding the difference. Plus, I grew up with a grammar nazi for a father.

I also had a grammar nazi father. He would rant angrily about people making up words by appending common suffixes to any noun or verb willy-nilly. When the texting craze begun he was certain the apocalypse wasn't far behind.

I don't have a problem with politely correcting people if the time and place is right, but people who get legitimately upset about poor grammar, or are cunty about it can fuck off. Half the time it's English majors upset that they don't have a marketable degree and are looking to feed their ego at the expense of others.

There's plenty of more important things in this world to get upset about, why add something so relatively trivial?

A lack of capital letters and punctuation annoys me. Not if it's like one sentence or something, or if someone forgets a capital letter, but a complete disregard is quite upsetting.

My last two paragraphs was me speaking generally about the cuntiest of grammar nazis, I don't know that you fall into that category. Sorry, it does kinda sound like I was directing that at you because of how I started, but I was actually just digressing into frustrations about dicks.

Pretty interesting article, especially the Douglas stuff about how cultures deal with ambiguity and the limits of language.

In a nutshell, Douglas notes that all languages parse the world into categories; in English, for instance, we call some things ‘mammals’ and other things ‘lizards’ and have no trouble recognising the two separate groups. Yet there are some things that do not fit neatly into either category: the pangolin, or scaly anteater, for example. Though pangolins are warm-blooded like mammals and birth their young, they have armoured bodies like some kind of bizarre lizard. Such definitional monstrosities are not just a feature of English. Douglas notes that all category systems contain liminal confusions, and she proposes that such ambiguity is the essence of what is seen to be impure or unclean.

Whatever doesn’t parse neatly in a given linguistic system can become a source of anxiety to the culture that speaks this language, calling forth special ritual acts whose function, Douglas argues, is actually to acknowledge the limits of language itself. In the Lele culture of the Congo, for example, this epistemological confrontation takes place around a special cult of the pangolin, whose initiates ritualistically eat the abominable animal, thereby sacralising it and processing its ‘dirt’ for the entire society.

‘Powers are attributed to any structure of ideas,’ Douglas writes. We all tend to think that our categories of understanding are necessarily real. ‘The yearning for rigidity is in us all,’ she continues. ‘It is part of our human condition to long for hard lines and clear concepts’. Yet when we have them, she says, ‘we have to either face the fact that some realities elude them, or else blind ourselves to the inadequacy of the concepts’. It is not just the Lele who cannot parse the pangolin: biologists are still arguing about where it belongs on the genetic tree of life.

So I've fixed a lot of my body pain problems, and this has allowed me to exercise again. I've been taking it really slow and mainly just farting around with pull ups since that's the movement I neglected the most when I used to exercise, and after around two months my max chin ups have gone from 1 to 10 at maybe 25% bodyfat

I'll definitely be able to do one-arm pull ups when I get back down to 10%
  49. #10549
sounds like you're moving in the wrong direction, how soon till 3arm pullups?

Bought a new laptop with poker winnings, and it comes with windows 8. A bit pissed how they force you to take it and you can't choose windows 7. But all in all it looks to be fine, a little getting used to but so far it seems ok. What really pisses me off though is what they did to skype. When you're logged in with your microsoft account (which you have to make or you can't use windows 8), and this account is linked to your skype (it seems to do this automatically when you start, or atleast advises you strongly to do it), then it is in fact impossible to log off! The only way to close it, if you don't want to make a new windows account just to get rid of skype, is ALT+F4. I had to google just to be able to close the damn thing. That's completely unacceptable forced behavior imo!

I'm pretty much at that level of muscle mass, but significantly fatter. He looks like he's at about 8%, I'm somewhere between Fedor and Roy Nelson. I'm not sure I've ever gotten below 12% though. I can put on mass like nobody's business, but getting really lean is tough

The Brazilians who receive the minimum salary have to use half of it to pay the monthly fees of public transport to get to their jobs.
Public transport in Sao Paulo is the second most expensive in the world in relation to the minimum salary.
Brazilians say the goverment is investing to much money in the construction of new stadiums for the 2014 football world championship

as somebody of japanese descent i guess i should pipe in - i think there's pervs everywhere but there's a weird "ima gonna mind my own business, dat's not my problem... gonna look away and pretend i saw nothin" kind of mentality that's pretty rampant which is pretty harmful to society.

pretty sure functional society depends upon people just speaking their minds and calling people out when they're wrong and always doing what they think is right. i can understand why my dad moved away from there when he was young (although he's gone back since my mom died). he's a misfit tho. like, japanese people are ridiculously orderly in public and behave and all that shit, but obv there are gonna be anti-social types who are gonna jump the queue and get on the train first and shit like that. most japanese would just kind of mumble something to themselves and do this holier than thou bs but my dad makes a point of shouting at them going "HEY YOU THE BACK OF THE LINE IS OVER THERE" which is like omg so blunt and rude by japanese standards. i think my dad's not so bad a guy really.

wtf, Miami was handicapped? I know next to nothing about sports betting, but finding a book that was handicapping Miami seems like a gold mine.

Miami -280 means you would have to bet $280 on Miami to win $100. It might have been something like -265 before gametime. Either way I thought it was a great bet on Miami, for a variety of reasons.
