Weakness in my game or just bad timing?
Hi all, found the site a few days ago and been reading up as much as I can. I'm currently playing at absolute (taken BR from $25 deposit to $202 at the moment playing .25 NL) and had a few hands last night that I need to post for some analysis but had a different one to talk about here.
Playing in a $5+1 tournament last night that paid top 5 (top 6 getting entry to freeroll on sunday) and we were down to 8 people left. I had around $5k in chip and around middle stack, blinds 200/400 and got dealt AA.
At this stage I raised to $1600 and big stack (around $11k) went AI, I immeadiatly called. He turned over 22 and then proceeded to hit 2-6 straight pulling 4 runners. At the time I figured if I didn't bust on the AA that I wasn't playing right (with the AI I pegged him as trying to steal the pot or on KK-AA and was basically considering that I had the best of him or would split) but now I'm wondering wether it was the right time to play it or not, given that if I had folded I'd have been down close to short stack.
So yeah, guess my question for discussion is if I did the right thing in making the call under any circumstances, if I made the right call in that circumstance or if I made the wrong call and should have just sat back until 2 more were knockedout and I was ITM.
As an aside, I find my major weakness in tournaments so far (only finished ITM in MTT twice out of about 10+) is making a move to try and build a stack as we get to the final 2 tables with good hands and busting out to something like last night or taking KK AI to AA.
Thanks for any advice and look forward to discussions
