THOUGHTS ON THIS HAND

    Default THOUGHTS ON THIS HAND

I am looking for advice on how I played a hand and if my thoughts should have been different.

Playing 50 person sit in go on Pokerstars, low limits.

Start of tournament not catching any hands, but evaluating the table. I always mark the Fish, players playing hands out of position, betting on 3rd pair, stuff like that. This way I will know who I want to play against. After 4 orbits I have 5 of the 8 players marked.

2nd level, one of the fish pushes his remaining 650 in, I am on the button K-Q c's, I push my stack 1450, hoping the blinds dont wake up with a hand, and I did not have either one of them marked. Blinds fold, K-Q c vs 5-6 s, he flops 2 pair. No worries I get all the chips back in less than 1 orbit from the same player, he pushes J-T off into my big blind, I am holding the ladies.

Little background leads me to the hand I would like some advice on.

Still 2nd level, I am sitting on the button, 6-4 c's, 3 limpers to me, I limp as well.

    Flop 4-6-8 (2 diamonds)

Fish leads out 120, the another fish calls. I admit that I was thinking they had to be on draws. They dont have an overpair or A rag, or they would have pushed all in. I pushed all in, hoping to get one caller chasing a draw.

Both call, one has bottom two pair, the other top 2 pair, and I am elliminated.

After thinking about this hand, if I would have been right and one was chasing a flush and the other chasing a straight draw, they would have had 15 outs. They would have been favored to win the hand anyway.

I play one gappers looking for straight, maybe I should have just called and looked for a full house? Or played the hand much differently, or maybe not even played the hand at all with only being in the second level.

The results don't really matter, I am just looking at different ways to look at this scenerio.

Thanks for any and all advice!

not really a tourney player , but shoving KQ that early in a tourney seems horrible to me. same with 64 early , you have no need to get involved with playing junk or puytting your tourney life on the line , and when you do you are liable to have your two pairs counterfeited.Tight is right early and then open up once the blinds start to be worth stealing.

to be blunt , just because the fish play that way doesn't mean that you have to play that way to keep up. Wait for good hands and the fish will shovel their chips to you.

Agree with keith about the kq, just let it go. At the second level the blinds are only 15/30, you're much better of playing tight the first several levels, maybe seeing a few cheap flops in position with pairs and sc's.

As for the 64 hand, I think limping on the button or folding is ok here depending on how well you can play post flop, but that board texture is awful for your hand. Folding after the first bet given the board is probably the best option, because all you can really hope for is to boat up, and you're just spewing chips to do so.

I appreciate the words of advice!

As I have really been focusing on learning to read the type of players that I am playing against more than the cards, I have noticed that I am opening up and playing more hands. I agree, just need to play tighter in the beginning like I always have. It is funny how when we are trying to learn more we often don't stick to the basics!
