    Default Pre-flop odds

    Howdy

This might not be easily explained here, but i wondered if anyone knew nonetheless.

Sometimes watching tourny's on the TV, when 2 players go All-In, and turn over their cards, they will say what the odds of them beating their opponent are and are normally within a couple of % of what the TV show is saying, and i just wondered how on earth they do it so quickly?

I can do Turn / River odds without any problems, but can't quite get my head around working out pre-flop odds

    Anyone?

Alot of those, the commentary is done after the tourney is actually played and some of it is just a generalization...... A dominated hand is usually about 75/25 ie AK vs AQ, unpaired over cards to under cards is usually about 65/35, and overpair vs underpair is about 80/20, and something like A8 vs KQ is about 60/40. I think that covers them all. You can use pokerstove to look up any scenario you want.

yeah, that's the thing to do. Type in certain scenarios (e.g. a pair vs one over and one under, Ace-Middle vs Two Broadways, AK v KQ, stuff like that) and make a note of them. Before you know it, they will become 2nd nature.

Sorry, i meant it was the actual players themselves saying it, not commentators, so i wondered if there was a less accurate, but quick way to guestimate the odds....

    thanks though

Yeah, I figured you meant the players not the commentators after i reread it, but I was to lazy to edit my post. As far as the guestimates, the ones I posted should be most of the ones you will need. The only one I missed was AK vs a PP.... like 66+ is about 55/45. That's all ya need to go by:

    80/20
    75/25
    66/34
    60/40
    55/45
