Playing at highest affordable limit?

I'm currently playing limit 6max 1/2 and I'm doing ok, nothing spectactular but ok and have only about 2000 hands. I have the bankroll to play 2/4, should I move up to this or get more experience at 1/2 first? (say after 10,000 hands)

Do what you feel comfortable with, whether that be going up to 2/4 or staying and gaining experience at 1/2.

My advice to you would be to not move up until 1/2 until you feel perfectly comfortable doing so, also make sure to post some tricky hands so the senior FTR guys can validate that your game is solid enough to move up.

Just make sure you're comfortable moving up and bankrolled to move up.

2000 hands is not a lot. If it were me Id put some more time in.

You can always dabble in 2/4 as long as BR says its ok. You don't have to commit yourself fully to 2/4. Do you multitable?? If so, open one at 1/2 and another at 2/4, 20BB each and you shouldn't see any diiference in play, both very fishy IMHO.

You're clearly capable of moving up but, because I know you a bit through other sources, I worry you might play scared at the higher level. I'd play another 5-8000 hands at 1/2 before you make the move simply because we know variance can take that long to rear its ugly head.

1. Properly bankrolled
2. Not afraid of how big the pot can get at the higher level, and not tilted if you lose it.
3. Play 10k hands at each level, just to make sure you can beat it and arent running good for a short period.
4. Move up!

Hi Mark.
I don't think I would play scared, I'm used to big pots from dabbling at higher limits in my past. As you know I'm not exactly a beginner at poker just a beginner in limit as 90% of my past history is in NL. I was just currious as to whether I should pay my dues at 1/2 or learn in the highest affordable limit which is 2/4 (I have $1300)
It seems to be the common thought that I should stick at the 1/2 for now.

Just a note from one limit guy to another...

I'd really avoid playing one table of one stake and one of another. The games don't really play the same (though at the lower levels they play similarly enough to fool you). I tried playing one table of 3/6 and one table of 5/10 for a while and I got eaten alive at the 5/10 tables. When I finally said, "fark this, I'm moving up and I'm not moving back down unless I bust", I made my profit.

There's always a learning curve. The first 5000 hands are always the worst. Other words of wisdom go here.
