Overplaying trips, scared of the flush??

Did I overplay the trip 5s? I was scared for the flush draw and minraised, causing him to fold. Should I smooth call next time?

Hero checks, MP1 bets $7, Button folds, Hero raises to $14, MP1 folds.

Final Pot: $30.50

I think he has a Q most of the time here. He PFR and bet out on the flop so the only semi-likely flush draws are AKs, AJs. Having said that, if you call and he has overcards he is pretty unlikely to bet into you on the turn with a Q there. If you minraise him and he has AQ, KK, AA he probably raises again to find out where he is (or at least calls) so the minraise probably works out +EV. If he has overcards then call, check call/bet might work but Id go with the raise. I think you can rep a Q by raising the flop, whereas the flop-call, turn-raise line betrays alot of strength (especially if the flush card comes on the turn and he decides you were on the draw).

I think I play it like you did but im not scared of the flush draw. I just want more value from a real hand.

For someone playing 10NL whose advice "isn't worth shit", that's pretty well put. I reckon you can at least take on 25NL

Rep the Q or flush draw and bet the flop. Hope for AQ/KQ/AA/KK/5x. Check-raising makes life easy for Villain. You'll lose a cbet though..

Let's assume he is on his flush draw, and is a 30% favorite to win (not 36% because you your outs on a full house). Let's also add into the equation of a heads up or 3-way scenerio like this one where you hold 88 and flop comes 5s 8s Ks, and assume that one of your opponents hold the As.

Now, the way I play these hands is this: Aggressive. This is why: My first goal in Texas Hold'em is to find out when I am ahead by a good % margin, ASAP. When I am confident that I am leading in these numbers, I will hammer my opponents hard. It is a much more difficult decision about whether to stay in the hand or not when you opponent bets 1/4 pot when a 4th spade hits on the turn, or diamond in your case.

Find the easy decisions, and push them as hard as possible.

I came up with the 88 example from a heads up example in a live game lastnight, I pushed all in. I'd much rather win the flop pot than lose a river or turned pot.

just what i thought, Pelion dont make the mistake I did by hanging around low limits for too long. maybe convince a relative/friend you're a winning player with the right mentality/skills (show them 40k+ hh stats/graph) and get a sly loan form them so you can start 25NL cos then you can be whoring and earn so much more.
