NL25: Flop top set vs Bluffy Player - Best way to proceed?

Villain is slightly loosish but very aggressive. 3 bets a lot, raises dry boards a lot, check raises a lot etc etc.

My bet sizing preflop and on the flop here isnt exactly what I would usually have it - I was a little distracted at the time but none the less it isnt that relevant to my question.

My view on his range when he raises is that its 99% air. He never has an overpair. A ten is unlikely. Sets are possible. But I have the board so crushed and he has air so much that I feel like 3 betting the flop is just chasing him away. Anyone not like the flat call?

What I am more interested in is what do we do on the turn and why? Generally I have come to learn that at 25NL just bet bet bet but this is a specific spot against an aggro player with a somewhat weak range at this point (is it)??? Is a check terrible to allow him to continue? If it is and we do bet, then how much do we bet?

Somewhat depends on whether you expect him to fire again on turn after you call him. If he really is a bet/raise maniac then c/r turn is good. If he's in any way likely to be pot controlling something after you call his raise then just lead out.

i doubt about c/r here as it might tell ur strength very well. he is a maniac but i don't think that it would #1 move.
i bet the turn, $5.5 in the pot and hoping to get a raise by him. then just miniraise that raise and he can't fold anymore. if he calls ur turn bet then valuebet the river.

i like the flat on the flop because it is a VERY specific scenario where you're against a bluffy villain, the board doesn't allow for like any hands that would wanna raise here except for sets and overpairs (which as you said he doesn't have), and the board is dry enough so that there are ZERO turns that kill the action.

so yes, flat here, but anyone reading this, understand that this is a very rare spot at the micros.

as for turn, it does somewhat depend on the villain. i don't know how many turns you've seen with this villain or what your image is, but basically if he's a maniac who says "omg overcard to the board on the turn, auto barrel" then obv check.

if he's a maniac (and you have an image) who says "omg no way that K improved his range, his donk is a bluff, auto raise" then obv bet (preferably something that both doesn't look like a value bet, but at the same time a raise commits him to the pot...don't really think that bet sizing exists here so $6 is prolly the best).

The flop bet/call is very standard in this spot. In this spot, with there being really no draws, and since he will get the money in on the turn/river with a worse set, and is very likely to bet turn if he has an overpair (JJ-AA). And since you have top set, he isn't likely to have a T, you should be looking to see how you can keep his range the widest and maximize from his entire range. Well when he has a hand, calling and checking the turn does that, as he islikely to valuebet. And when he does have air, calling and checking turn allows him to continue his bluff.

I actually wouldn't mind a very weak lead on the turn if he is aggro and will view it as weakness and likely raise. But, I think c/c, check is best.

I definately donk the turn, call the raise thats coming, than value bet river.

I know it's cliche, but you say he never has an overpair, but 2 times a day a broke clock is right. I agree with above posters, since your OOP, I check both turn and river. I would call turn to conceal strength the c/r river. He should be committed by that point, and if he still doesn't have a hand, he has played very very poor poker, so he should be calling your raise on the river
