Las Vegas Hold'em Question - Leaving Table

I have played private Texas Hold'em tournaments where you play until one person wins and I have also played online where you can leave when you want games. I will be going to Las Vegas for the first time in a couple months and was wondering how Texas Hold'em games work in Las Vegas?

Do you have to play out or a minimum number of hands or can you leave a table (up or down) at any time?

I assume there are probably different types of games available but what do I need to know to find the right game?

Is there any additional etiquette I need to know regarding leaving a table (aside from not acting like a jerk)?

Go to the card room, which is usually set apart from the casino floor and close to sports book. There will be a desk w/ some well dressed guys and gals. Usually there is a board or computer screens that show the available games or your position on the list. Other places they just keep it on paper or a chalkboard.

Walk up to the desk and if you can't see the list, politely ask what games are available. Usually there will be limt HE 2-4 and up as well as some stud. A lot of places now spread NLHE cash games with blinds 1/3 or 2/5 with 100 minimum buy-in and 3-500 maximum buy-in.

Ask if there are any open seats, or ask if you can be put on the list for the game you want. If you are on the list, you hang around until they call your name or initials.

What do I need to find the right game?
This depends on your bankroll. What are you willing to put into the game? For limit you should have 30-50 BB (big bets) ie. $200 for a 2/4 game. That should last you for a full 6 hr session. If you want to play NL, I recommend at least 2 full buy-ins in case you bust quick you can rebuy.

When it's time to take your seat, some places have chip runners who will take your money and give you chips, other places you have to go to the poker cage. Some will let you buy-in from the dealer but that practice is generally discouraged. The dealer's supply of chips is to replenish anyone who busts.

Once your seat is "locked up" you can do whatever you want. Play one hand and leave. Play 10 hours straight. You can also leave your seat whenever you want and it will remain reserved. Usually you can leave a vacant seat for 30 mins. to an hour (every place is a little different). So you can catch a quick buffet and still return to your seat.
