how to play connectors?

I remember reading in SuperSystem that Doyle liked to riase with middle/small suited connectors before the flop. I've been told before to play suited connectors. (although I rarely get them, and when I do they don't do well)

I do get unsuited connectors alot, and I am tempted to play them but usually fold them (except for on the button.)

what are your thoughts on these hands?

Raise in position if you feel like it and if (and this is important) you are playing with thinking players who are paying attention to what you're doing. This is important to keep them guessing. If someone figures out "limps with suited connectors, raises big pairs," that's not good for you.

If the money on the table is deep, call a raise if it's not obscene. Try to flop huge and take AA's whole stack for fun and profit.

Otherwise, just try to see a flop cheaply.

TylerK has it right. Suited connectors are the hand that I use to help mix up my play. In position, I'll raise with them like I did over the weekend with my 78s. I got three callers and got my dream flop: 456. No one could put me on 78 so when I raised a pot sized bet big, the set of 4's put me on a big pocket pair. I had all his money in the pot on the turn. The other great thing about these hand are that they are easy to get away from if you miss.

Good point Mike. Suited connectors are great cards if you ask me because it's easy to fold but also have great implied odds when you do in fact hit.

yeah, after I read DB's SS, I began to think that you can play suited connectors like AA and found out that it is a quick way to get your pants pulled down and end up broke.

Having since re-assessed, (IMHO) they are probably best played in a pot with 3 to 5 players. As the peeps on here say, u have the benefit of either getting in cheap - getting out cheap OR getting in cheap - getting out rich!
The flop should also leave u with a VERY simple decision about what to do next!

Or, alternatively, as Tyler says, u nip in as the big stack v short stack and bust someone's pocket faces/aces!
