Dealing with Tilt

Hey everyone - This is my 1st post, but I've been reading through them for a little. I have been playing poker for about 1 full month, and I made a profit of about 600-700 that is until yesterday..... I have this major problem with dealing with any type of bad beat or unlucky streak, and as a result, I tilted myself down to +75. Is there anything you guys can recommend to help dealing with this big problem? What kind of things do you experienced players do to control yoursleves?

sounds like you're playing too high of a stake for just starting out. play at stakes/with bankroll that makes the chips not seem like money.

Welcome. Control tilt by playing more. You will see it all, and nothing will phase you any more. If you know bad beats screw up your play this much, just *stop playing after dropping, say, 40BB in a single hand.

Your numbers indicate that you're what we call "results-oriented". Look again at your numbers for these figure:

Total hands played; total profit; profit as BB/100.

Well...when I had 700 at one point, I went into the 1/2 NL tables - that was probably a mistake. After, I got down to 500 after losing with a flush to a flopped full house. Then, my tilt proceeded to rob me of my profits as I stupidly went into 2/4 NL tables to try to regain my losings quickly.

As far as bankroll is concerned, do you think playing in $15 turbo SNG is about the right amount for a bankroll of 700?

with 600 you're properly rolled for $30 and below. Turbos you need some extra, to account for variance, so I wouldn't do >$20 turbos.

playing 1/2 NL with 700 bankroll is insane and you got what you deserved for that.

read about bankroll management on here. play with like 25 buy-ins at least for your level.

hmmm - how many buyins for a tournament do i need in order to play at that level? 100 buyins of $16 turbo SNG in order to play at that level?

100 buy-ins for mtt's. for turbo sng's like 30 i think. someone please correct me if i'm wrong.

hmmm - sounds ok - then why would LeFou telling me playing in $16 Turbo SNG is too much for my what was $700 bankroll. Once I get back up to that, I'm gonna go straight back to that. Do you think there are just some players not cut out for cash?

Playing turbos with a buyin > $20 would risk busting if you ran bad. $16 looks fine.

What has happened to you is something that most players go through, and although it sucks bigtime you will NEVER make the same mistake again, and this is a lesson of huge value. So don't be disheartened - find yourself a limit within your bankroll (which is what, btw, now that you've lost most of yr profit?) and play form there - if you're a good player your roll will grow and you'll be able to move up in stakes when it does.

LeFou I think you mean <$20 - the way the arrow is pointing in ur posts means less than $20....you give me adivce on poker, and I can help you with the other stuff...lol

on a more serious note, my bankroll now sucks. It's under 50 which means I have to start playing with my real money again...also extremely frustrating, but whatever - I guess it's part of the game. I could probably put an extra $300 into the account and have nothing to worry about.

Maybe you were kidding, but the alligator eats the bigger number, so LeFou was right.

He was wrong. He should have wrote <$20. Why would turbos >$20(less than 20) be dangerous? See my point?

on a side note, its good to see that others still use the "alligator" when dealing with the greater than/less than arrows.

I was always partial to Pacman. Pacman is always hungry so he eats the larger number.

Crocodiles are way better than aligators and pacman. Steve Irwin would never have done a show called Aligator Hunter.

I deal with a bad day by getting drunk. That's also what I do after a day of big winnings.

Okay, so you have a roll of $350. You can play $16s, just about, and $11s if you play SNGs, or $10NL if you play ring (you could move up to $25NL when your roll reaches $500). If you play MTTs you can probably get away with $5.50s. Hope this helps!

Obviously. Steve Irwin was Australian. There is only one relatively small species of alligator in Australia.
