Thanks aokrongly. I am not a beginner, but I'm beginning over. I plan to take every single hand I am dealt and anaylze each one before my next session. I'll be posting my "I will nevers" right above my computer.

Hehehehe, I hope you write more, AK, because I'm learning a lot from the last two posts you make. It seems like your approach is similiar to what I was looking to emulate.

My computer monitor is covered with stickies with "I will never/will always" statements on them now. And indeed, one of them is:
"I will never be wedded to a hand just because it's strong."
(followed shortly by "I will always remember that the chips are no longer mine once they get in the middle", and "I will push pre-flop with KK and DROP IT WHEN I'M RERAISED ON THE A" (used a sharpie on that last part))

Keep writing stuff out, it's helpful and letting me know I'm headed in a generally decent direction.

I am really mad at myself right now. After playing two single tables and being £0.60p up (ok ok I know, not enough to retire on!) I went and joined a third £1.00+£0.20p game and came TENTH. That is just pathetic. So, I am going to get my pen and paper and write out "With 9 other players, somebody has my QQ beat. Don't go all-in so early!".

Great post, Aokrongly. I always look forward to reading your stuff and hope you keep posting such great tips. Makes me feel bad to be an ass and show another way to plug a hole:

Ate it completely on an AI against an A7o who didn't really feel like playing anymore. Bad move by him if I had been holding A8+, which I was trying to project (AK). Ugh, I even said before the flop (with 4 callers to my 2.5xBB raise), "If an Ace drops, check/fold. They will call with any ace. Check/fold. Check/fold."

Everyone checks to me on the button, and what do I do? GO ALL-IN!

Could have easily won given the loose passive play of everyone left and my middle stack. AGH!

You can't plug a leak by making a new hole in it. That is a terrible lesson to teach yourself. It should rather read something like this: "Unless I am ahead of what I perceive to be my opponent's range or am offered good pot- or implied odds to call, I will fold to a re-raise". It's not as convinent as just folding whenever you don't have the nuts, but it'll make you money in the long run.

Check I no longer feel obliged to get another few dollars in the pot because they can and they will call down with what you fear most.

This is the biggest leak in my game, I am always so relieved to just check check with any villain, I have since stopped this and now am value betting marginal to good hands.

When someone goes check/call check/call PUSH I will not assume they have a busted draw and are trying to outwit me and call with TPWK.

I think you better make that how to plug a leak in 5 hours becuase some people are such boneheads it would take them 500x to write the sentence and learn not to do it again although the majority of people would learn in an hour there are some real knuckleheads out there that could take longer to learn lol

The "I will not" trick is such a good idea.

Do you think it could be used on the opposite way like if you have success in man consecutive similar situation, you right it down as a good advice to follow?

thanks for the post. I have about 10 notes i've written at various times that say DON'T BLUFF OOP! (i don't really count situational bets like cbets and betting a four-flushed board in EP as bluffs; i'm talking bluffs based on reads) but i just rest my elbows on it and forget about it once i start playing. then the next time i fire a second barrell out of position because i think i know he only called because he's a weak and i have a loose image and the flop was 772, i get pissed and etch a box around the comment or something.
maybe this little psychological exercise'll help!

It's actually inspiring that as good a player as Spenda is, he still recognizes leaks in his game.

One of the biggest leaks in anyone's game is thinking there aren't any leaks.
