Building BR, tabling question

Hey guys, so I'm starting my bankroll build from $50 on stars a la the BR/rakeback guide for American players posted by spoonitnow in the Newbie stickies.

My question is, how do you know when you ought to start playing multiple tables. And by multiple I just mean 2 for now. I've only just started the 6-max $2NL on stars, should I get my bankroll up to a certain point before I start playing a second table?

You can go up to two tables, when you think you can follow the action and make the right decisions. Keep it under 6 tables until you really understand what you are doing.......

Luck has it, as long as you can follow the action and are able to go through your thought processes for each action then it's okay to add tables, but yeah keep a pretty low number to start. If you're ever feeling rushed at the tables, like you don't have the time to think decisions through, or if you time out by accident, these are things that would indicate you're playing too many. A lot will say to stick to 1 because it's not possible you could know what you're doing yet so early in the process, that's definitely worth considering, do what works for you.

I don't see the problem with playing 2 tables almost immediately. Increases your exposure to more situations a lot more quickly than 1 tabling would, and its really not that much harder to focus on 2 tables.

You should get on two tables just as soon as you feel that you're following the action easily and your mind is idle during the hand.

Something like Tableninja will help you once you're playing 4+ tables.

Pretty much like what has been said. The number of tables really isn't a bankroll issue but more about attention/ability.

When you're playing solid, tight-aggressive poker, probably. If you're playing too many hands then probably best to either trim your hand selection or keep to one table if you refuse to fold raggy aces or whatever. I don't know how many hands "too many" is, probably above 20%, which is about what I'm down to.

Also, don't even consider m-tabling unless you have a HUD running, like PokerTracker, otherwise it will be difficult to remember who the strong players are, who the limpers are etc.

I open up more tables when I get frisky and start stealing the button from MP in a FR game.

I disagree. Many people can follow actions without huds. I have done it fairly well at 6 tables. But to his question, just take it one table at a time. If you time out more than once a session or you feel rushed than you have too many tables going. That could happen at 2 tables or 24.

If you're playing too many hands, chances are you aren't playing enough tables, not that you're playing too many. Like I play 8+ tables and if I drop below that for micro FR I'll go from 13/11-15/12 TAG to 22/18 lagtard.

I watched your video and I don't think there's a chance in hell that you will ever play as a 13/11 at FR

To OP,
If you get bored, add a table.
If you feel stressed adding a table, drop a table.

Lol well, I do if I have more than 3 tables running. :P

Maybe a HUD isn't essential to all, but if I haven't got mine running, I feel almost lost, like a child wandering the dangerous streets alone just begging to be offered a sweetie. Perhaps I have AQ on the button facing a raise... against an 11/4 it's a fold, against a 45/25 it's a raise... My HUD is an essential tool for helping me in this particular spot. Maybe 2 tables is easy enough to track, but if we're getting into serious m-tabling, it's going to be really tough to remember who keeps limping, who only raises, who the mentalists are, and most importantly, who the nits are, who will go largely unnoticed as they fold fold fold. I consider it an essential tool, but you don't need it to make money, it's just you'll probably make more if you have one running, so long as you use the information it gives you correctly.
