Big weekend bankroll boost - now what?

After a rare weekend of playing time, I jumped my roll from $400 to over $1800 - in one weekend! I did this by playing turbo double shootouts and rebuy satellites, winning seven seats to the Sunday Million and cashing for Tourneybucks. I'd read on this site that these sats were soft, but egads... Here was my basic strategy: open push anything premium, profit, doze off til my next big hand. This is only a slight exaggeration. There were so many seats available in the rebuys that you really only had to play tight aggressive push/fold poker and pwn the short stacks.

Let me get to the point: I now have the roll to play probably $30 SNGs. Previously, I was playing $6 and $12 45man SNGs on Stars and doing pretty well. (Maybe 25% ROI over 360 games) How will this jump affect my variance? I need to be very conservative as this will likely be my only roll ever. I normally only play on my lunch hour, so I'm looking at just a couple of tourneys a day. How would you guys maximize your profit potential here?

Also, are these ridiculous results or can a slightly above average player expect such a high ROI from these sats? I'm telling you these things were SOFT! In one rebuy, I'm in the top 10 immediately after the rebuy period and promptly donk over half my stack playing rebuy poker (didnt shift gears). Then I look at the board and see that, among about 400 players, we're playing for 66 seats! Sh*t! I coulda coasted, but no worries. Proceed to push/fold to 3 double ups and then coast. I even had my kids continually interrupt my playing. Didnt seem to matter. Was I on a ridiculous heater? It's not like the deck seemed to be hitting me in the face all weekend.

Ha Ha. Those rebuy satellites on poker stars are crazy.

I think that part of the idea of playing within your bankroll is that you play to a level that suits you. If you grind your way up to higher levels then you would have had enough experience and skill to move up. It's a natural progression. Now with a big win like that I don't know if I would be comfortable moving up in the stakes at the same proportion. That's just my thoughts though.

You were lucky to win with all those premiums (or even a large majority)

Gooser, I think you're right. I'll probably play around the $20 level for a while and see how it goes. What I've played so far doesn't seem like a significant jump in quality of opponents...

Im not pretending to be an expert when it comes to big BR increase over a short peroid of time but I recently read an article ( not sure where, maybe P5) and it was talking about this type of situation with MTT when you win big and decide you are superman and can play at any level and crush it....not saying this is your mentality, just explaining the psychological effect that probably took place...my advice would be to continue playing your normal limit and progress from there....it may sound stupid because of your roll but if jump from $6-$12 to $20+ your asking for something bad to happen,....and there would go your nice roll...be conservative and play at a limit you can progress and beat and move up accordingly.....

You'll still play the 45s? Not sure how much difference you'll see there. In short, the general standard will be a bit better, and you'll run into a fair few more people who know how to play well. There'll still be lots of weak players though.

You'll probably need to adjust to playing more decent players per table. I'd probably look at playing a bunch of $20 tourneys initially. Still a fair jump in standard, but you dont lose as much if you have trouble adjusting. If you think after 10 or so you have the idea then go ahead and play the $30s.

Don't move up more than 1 level. Play a few hundred or more and decide if you're beating that level. Improve during the process. Good luck, and congrats.

In fact, why not cash out some and keep yourself properly rolled for the level that is appropriate for you? Cash about half of it and you can still be comfortably rolled for one level up.

its not like being over rolled is a bad thing. imo, it is pointless to cash out of your account with less than like 5k. i mean, i guess it depends a lot on if you are serious about poker or not, and want to build a roll. if you want to just mess around here and there, then yeah cash some out, but if you seriously want to build a roll and get good and start owning sng's, dont cash out anything for a while, unless you are really desperate. i would recommend you ask the question of what limits to play in the sng tactic thread.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I definitely am not thinking I'm the pwnage now as I woulda never started this thread in the first place with that kinda mindset. I don't wanna cash anything out yet either as I don't need the money for anything. I started with one $50 deposit and I want to play it up conservatively to see how big I can get it. Think of it as a retirement account. That said, I'm looking for maximizing profit potential within the playing parameters I've set (SNGs at lunchtime mostly). I like the 45s and I'll stick with those for the most part, throwing in the occasional lower-level rebuy or 6man double shootouts which I believe are full of weak players. You guys like this or no?

See, a move to $20 seems conservative enough to me. That's about 80 buyins. Obviously if after 10-20 buyins I'm leaking like a sieve then I'll drop back down. That's basic management and I know how to do it. I started with $50 and had to drop down several times in the past year, so I'm not above moving down levels when the roll dictates it.

Sounds like a plan. Go for it, and wtg on your big win.

Don't cash out. Move up 1-2 levels and play enough to see how you are doing. If you move up anymore than that then you're getting ahead of yourself.
