Bankroll differences between Limit and NL???

Ok, I would really like someone to clarify this for me. I was told for LIMIT Hold'Em a good bankroll would be 300BB, meaning if you were playin at .50 being the big bet, you would need at least $150 in your account. You can also multiply that .50 by about 25 to show you that you need to sit at the table with at least 25BB, thus being $12.50 .

Is this correct so far? Here is where my confusion comes in. How does this differ from NL? Is NL just 25-30 X the Big Blind? Please help, and don't refer me to that Bankroll article, I already read it. Thanks.

In Limit holdem there is no cap (well, no realistic cap) on what you can bring to the table. 25bb is just a nice even number

Most NL tables (15+ buyins) use 100bb stacks (old party was 50bb and absolute is 200bb) as the maximum you can buy in for

NLHE you want 100BB (big blinds) while at LHE you want 20-25BB (big bets = 2x big blind)

No, you always want to buy in for the maximum amount possible. In NL, implied odds are king and you want to get a LOT of money into the pot, and sitting with 1/4 the max won't do it. In LHE, implied odds just aren't as concerning.

No problems with the aboe apart fom buy in at 35bbs or better. Why? That allows you to cap all streets for 2 pots back to back. Just incase that happens and you dont have enough to do it if you lose that first pot. Just means you dont regret having to reload

So would you agree a 100BB buy in for NL is much more adequate?

Also depending on how much I have in my bankroll, how should I decide what limit to play for NL? Is it the same as 300BB like LimitHE?

I'm trying to figure out what stakes I should play based on howe much I have in my account, which is $100. As far as buy in for a specific table, what should that usually be based on?

At a NL table you want to buy in for the max allowed so that you can maximize profits with big hands. At a limit table you just want to always make sure that you can cap every street if you need to in case you do get a monster.

The bankroll requirements are 300 BigBets for Limit; and at least 15 buyins for NL. If I were you I'd be more tempted to put $150 in and then you would be bankrolled to play either .25/.50 Limit or $10 NL (max buy-in = $10).

So if I wanted to play $25BB NL then it would be best to buy in for 2500, meaning I would need about $37500 in my online bank to be considered playing in my bankroll?

In short, yes.

5/10 NL is considered high stakes. To have the same amount on the line in limit, you'd have to be playing stakes greater than 25/50. Also, winrates differ in NL. A good player may make 10BB(big bets)/100 or more in NL. In limit a good player is making 3BB/100. So from that, a good NL player at 5/10 could well be making $200/100 hands. That's roughly the same as 30/60 limit if my estimates are right.

Note: I've never played those stakes, nor had in depth conversations with those who have; thus those estimated winrates may be in error given the stakes we're discussing.

dear god no. Limit stacks are measured in BB = Big bets = 2x Big Blinds


NL stacks are measured in BB = Big Blinds and 100 big blind stacks seems about right for No Limit. 25BB(Big Blinds) is horribly short stacked for No Limit but 25BB(Big Bets so 50Big BLinds) does the job for Limit where you dont tend to bet quite as much on one hand.

In NL you always want to buy in for the max so you can max you winning when you hold a strong hand.

In limit, what you buyin for really doesn't matter. You just need to always have at least 12BB (big bets) on the table because that is how many you could potentially need to cover max betting on every street.
