Analysis of a losing hand.

I played a losing hand last night. I have analyzed what I beleive I could have done better, but as always, would like another perspective.

This was a live tournament game, so I have no hand history. Nevertheless, the hand is etched into my memory:

Villan1 - Button. Very aggressive, one of the shortest stacks at table. Always raises me when I am in the blinds.
Villan2- Don't know much about him. Plays more hands than average. Big stack.
Hero- Big Blind. Playing fairly tight, but I recently ran a couple of plays that raised some eyebrows. Meduim size stack.


Hero Dealt [AQo]
Villan1 raises to 200 chips to 400 chips
Hero Calls 200 chips
Villan 2 calls 400 chips

Flop [K79] rainbow
Hero checks
Villan 2 bets 200
Villan 1 folds
Hero calls

Turn [K]
Hero checks
Villan 2 checks

River [Q]
Hero checks
Villan 2 bets 2000+ chips
Hero calls all-in.

Hero shows 2 pair KQ
Villan 2 shows 3 of a Kind Kings( he had K7)

Hero is eliminated.

My analysis:

1) Pre-flop- I should have re-raised Villan 1. I didn't re-raise because I was concerend that his situation was getting desperate and he might be ready to move all-in. Nevertheless, a re- raise probably would have caused Villan 2 to fold his crap K7 hand.

2) Turn- I should have bet for information.

3) River- obviously I should have folded, but I thought it was a steal since I checked and called the whole way. If I had done my homework pre-flop and on the turn, then I might have never got myself into that situation.

Anything else?

Need more info:

1) How did Villian 2 call 400 PF w/o limping first if you are the BB? What position was he(UTG?, MP?).
2) How many players at the table?
3) On the bubble or close to it? Early or late in tournament?

Of course he limped first (and is why I did not put him on a big hand).
There were 8 of 40 players remaining. ITM is top 6. The hand went something like this:
Player 1 fold
Player 2 fold
Player 3 (Villan2) limp
Player 4 fold
Player 5 fold
Player 6 Button (Villan1) Raise to 400
Player 7 SB Fold
Player 8 Hero Calls 200
Player 3 Calls 200.

I guess that puts Villan2 in Middle position.

With a call and reraise PF and 8 players, I don't think I'd raise out of position w/AQ, though maybe if just HU against an aggressive button. BUT, you still have to worry about Villian 2.

Turn - check is good. Could've bet but you are unimproved.

River - disastrous. Can't call an AI for your tournament life w/ second pair, two places from ITM. Definitely not w/o a strong read . If you fold you haven't lost too many chips(and should still be a mid-stack, I assume). If you were going to call AI you should've just raised AI.

BTW, if he had K7 looks like a full house to me?

Ok, so you say that the simple call was a good play. I thought that a re-raise might make Villan 2 drop his weak hand.

You don't think that a bet here (and the probable raise) would have told me that he has a K? I know I would definitely not have called a bet.

Yeah, looking back it was plain dumb. It was already late, and the final table was very aggressive. I guess I got caught up in it. Still, I've got to give Villan2 props. He definitely had a read on me, and played it perfectly.

You are right about the Full House. Maybe it's not so etched into my memory after all. I know that he definitely won with a set of Kings, and that the King was the only paint on the flop.

At that point he's got either trips or FH, he likely would just call anyway(especially w/FH) since he just checked behind you.

Anyway, 8th of 40 is pretty decent. Live and learn...

Pshaw, $30 is still pretty cheap for a night's entertainment. Probably less then half what she paid for her last salon appointment if she's anything like my wife
