Almost 20k Stat Check
Earlier this year, I gave up on poker. I couldn't understand why I couldn't beat $25 NL. I mean it should be easy shouldn't it ? All those fish. Trouble was I was one too, not as bad as some, but bad enough to never make any progress, and see my Bankroll dwindle away. I got so frustrated I just stopped playing.
A few months back I got an email inviting me to a free roll, and I won $312. Result ! I decided to give $10 NL a go with the money. This time I was actually going to try and get better at this game. One last shot.
I'm still pretty bad at this game to be honest, the thing is though, I actually realise it now. I am past the stage of " pre flop AK , im all in" and stacking off with top pair even when I know I am beat. (Although I still have my moments, usually after a cooler"
I put a lot of time in before I started playing. I still struggle to understand some of the concepts Spoon it now talks about, although I am really trying, reading, and re reading all the time. I spent some time working out where the winnings would come from, what my edge would be over the rest of the $10 NL field.
Basically, every hand I try to put villains on ranges (I'm still not very good at it) Stopped just looking at my own cards, and actually put some though in to the hand I was in. Betting for value is the biggest improvement in my game. I have been betting for Value much thinner against the stations, where before I would check hands on the turn or river, through fear of being beaten.
Anyway, I have almost completed the 20k hands I set as my first check point, and things have gone much better than I expected. I think my win rate is some way of the mark, as I went on a big heater for the first 7 or 8 thousand hands, but I am still really pleased with the improvement I have made. I made a couple of awful plays stacking off with TPTK when I was deep stacked, which made me tilt for a while too.
Forgive my poor image editing skills, I now have the bankroll to play $25 NL, with the bonuses and rake back I have cleared. Should I move up, or play another 20k at $10 NL ? If I do move at what point do I move back down?
Any big leaks spotted, I would be happy for some constructive critisism. Thank you.
